One of the first more professional events I went to for networking was UCLA’s Theater Film and Television’s UCLA Animation Workshop 75th Anniversary. This event was a celebration of the years of animation that both the bachelors and masters program of UCLA’s animation program had produced over the years. It included a key screening of various films made in the workshop, special remarks and messages, and a reception with wonderful food. There was even some nice swag that came alongside attending it!
Okimura Lynn - one of my animation professors at CSULB who is also an assistant professor at UCLA
William Rowe - MFA graduate of UCLA, currently a storyboard artist at Titmouse Studios
Ariel Goldberg - MFA graduate of UCLA, currently a talent acquisition at Skydance Animation
Thy Than - MFA graduate of UCLA, worked at Titmouse alongside William Rowe, think she’s freelance
Natalie Xavier - MFA graduate of UCLA, works at UCLA TFT Administrative and Admissions Specialist
At this conference, I didn’t really show off much about myself as an animation student or person. However, it gave me a better grasp on how to interact with others including other students, and for the most part, that’s just to be human and have fun and create connections with them. The workplace is something different, so talking face to face is great to know how to put myself out there as myself before putting myself out there as an artist. The next event I go to, I’ll try to make that my central focus.
