Testing the Website - Apr 2025
This week, even though my website still looked very volatile, I decided to critique through my website to see how I’d improve on it more. This post will be split into two sections; my own critiques, and companion critiques.
I asked five people to look at my website this week; two of them were my parents, one was an online friend, and two were peers from Cal State Long Beach
MY CRITIQUE
Personally, while I am piggybacking off of Squarespace’s templates right now, the website has a colorful identity but at the same time it personally doesn’t. It does give off a very playful vibe with the Display type being extremely playful and the font being mainly Sans Serif, but I like personalizing to the next level so if Squarespace allowed it I would try to customize the fonts to fit a vibe I’d aim for even more. I naturally spent the most time in blog posts only because it had a substantial amount of reading to do, and not much time was spent in Effects Animation due to the lack of substance there. Ways I can improve this is by finishing up more of my items as well as try to make items more clear.
COMPANION CRITIQUES
For the most part, my companions’ critiques were somewhat universal. They spent the most time inside of blog posts and the art sections filled out. I think it’s a bit biased because I asked people I have a closer association with so they looked at everything that they could have. There were a few interesting things that caught my attention; my online friend told me that some of the colors on the website were a bit too bright to look at (example, this white over pink) and should be fixed. A peer from school told me that once more works get added, the photos should be more properly cropped just to help condense it but also not blast the viewer with the entire work completely, essentially to “curate it some more.” My dad, who also went to UCLA 75th and helped me write the previous blog post, wished for me to elaborate a bit more on the blog post to read more. They naturally do wish to know more, so as time passes I will do my best to give them more once the website gets continuously filled up.
